The future of Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery is up in the air. Prior to the 2025 season, the talented running back quipped he hoped that fans did not forget about him, as he clearly noticed the increased support for Jahmyr Gibbs.

The Atlanta Falcons have started their interview process, formally speaking with Detroit Lions chief operating officer Mike Disner for their newly created president of football position on Thursday. Disner has spent the last seven seasons working in the Lions front office.

For the second time in less than a year, the Detroit Lions are looking for a new offensive coordinator after reportedly firing John Morton on Tuesday.

On Thursday, during his end-of-season press conference, Lions general manager Brad Holmes admitted there needs to be a conversation about Montgomery’s future. Holmes made it clear they want Montgomery back in 2026, but also very much hinted at a possible trade or release when asked if they planned on having him on the roster this upcoming season.

Saylors joined the Lions as an undrafted free agent after signing with the Cincinnati Bengals following the 2023 NFL draft. Saylors played two seasons with the St. Louis Blackhawks (2024-25) of the UFL before returning to the franchise in 2025.

The Lions hadn’t participated in the postseason since 2016 and reaching the need for a tiebreaker with the Seattle Seahawks before missing the playoffs provided a rare buzz of excitement for Detroit that would become the norm in 2023 and 2024.
